Priestmead Primary School, Harrow, London
To celebrate and help with the cohesion and bridge building taking place as Priestmead Middle and Priestmead First Schools merge, Artyface have been commissioned to make 8 square metres of mosaic, involving the whole school!
The pupils and the wider school community will get to have a go before September finishes and the school will be a-buzz with tiles, recycling, patterns and co-operative work.
To prepare for the mosaicing, Jill, Maud and Catherine ran drawing workshops for years 2,3,5 and 6. Children from the upper and lower schools worked together, pairing up, so Year 6s worked with year 1s and so on. It was a lovely experience and began a bonding that will help give the younger children confidence with the changes in their school come September. The older children excelled and we found that many children concentrated much more than they would have normally. This was an excellent idea from Ms Anwar. Thank you!
Sunita Devji and Jyotika Halai also ran tile making workshops with all of year 2 and 3, making small clay patterned tiles which will be glazed and make up part of the mosaic in September.

The project resumed in September 2010 with an Inset day for 80 staff, where the staff from the two schools got a chance to make something fantastic for the school, to begin the mosaic designed by the pupils.
"Thank you again for the superb INSET. Our staff thoroughly enjoyed it and the mosaics are looking wonderful."
Fariah Anwar-Simmons, Mosaic Project Co-ordinator and teacher
"Amazing! Absolutely amazing. We were tingling with excitement as we walked closer to the class. When we saw it, we were stunned. We were rushing to see all the mosaics. We each got a job. There was nothing like this experience, ever."
