| Camouflaged Nature Doors and Overhead Nature Mural | ||

We worked with Year 6 for the final two weeks of Summer Term 2001.
The brief was to design and make two doors and an overhanging mural in painted wood for the entrance
into the new nature garden in their playground. The class discussed possible themes and decided upon camouflaged animals and bright colours, researching and drawing from books. The class was divided into three groups who helped designed the murals, traced the designs onto the wood and finally painted their designs onto the tailor-cut wood. Pupils found the project rewarding and became voluntary participants, many staying after school hours and visiting the artists to join in at breaks and lunchtime. Pupils who had learning and/or behavioural difficulties discovered new talents and were publicly rewarded with an award in school assembly. They were proud of the legacy they left in their primary school as they moved into secondary education. |
